Both series are centered around a character with an ambiguous background. In both series a central storyline is the destiny of the protagonist. Both characters posess great power, but cannot access or harness that power due to certain restrictions. Both characters are mocked and seen as talentless and undeserving by other characters (mostly those of antagonistic or rivalrous nature)

Saiunkoku Monogatari addpermalink

Both worlds are based on ancient China. Their clothing and attire are basically the same. Both anime talk of how to strengthening the country and its people as well as how to live a righteous life.Qin's Moon are more gear toward the view of the Martial Arts world while they resist against a tyrant ruler, while Saiunkoku Monogatari approach in how scholars, retainers, and military officials help their wise emperor rule the country. The protagonist's personalities are quite similar, that they both want to be strong and they're both quite rash, as well as that they both talk about the meaning of true strength. Also, both have one on one combat fights at some stage, as well as it's a story about a journey of a young boy who is destined for greatness and will eventually become a very great hero.

Utawarerumono addpermalink

As I was watching these, I got the same impression out of both of them; that action and fantasy feeling which drives me crazy. Though the characters may be different, I still loved each and everyone of them. The characters aren't the same, but both characters, in this case Tianming and Hakuowlo, have companions following them through thick and thin. Tianming's and Hakuowlo's companions follow them through the war that's beginning to occur, and other events I shall not spoil for you. Watch Utawarerumono/The Legend of Qin, I promise you that you'll love both of them.

Souten Kouro addpermalink

Both are historicals based in ancient china. Qin's moon is more focused on martial arts while Souten Kouro's action focuses on military type or sword battles. They are both very interesting and contain deep theologies but Qin's Moon might take some getting used to due to its 3d animation. I hated it and even now I still don't like it but I got used to it since the story was interesting. I definitely recommend watching both if you liked either one of them.
